The Mission People
Letter from missions board to an applicant: "We received your application and we're surprised. You're afflicted with severe eye trouble. This is a handicap to effective ministry. Is it appropriate for a missionary to do part-time secular work? You're making tents on the side. The church in Philippi was the only church that supported you. We wonder why. Is it true that you have a jail record? Certain brethren report that you did time at Caesarea and were imprisoned at Rome. You refer to yourself as aged. Our missions policy is to only accept young applicants. We advise you to stick with tent making." Signed, The Foreign Missions Board. This was to Apostle Paul. When you think about it, he was unlikely yet the greatest apostle. You might not be a likely missionary or minister. God chooses and delights in those who aren't likely. Have you been discouraged from doing God's will? God only chooses those who are not qualified. He doesn't call the qualified; he qualifies the called. Just answer and go. God will take care of the rest. Be willing and God will take care of making you able.
Today's Mission
Go boldly into the world. Answer God's calling for you, today. You are qualified to serve Him. Be willing; you have been enabled.
Philippians 4:13
13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Content Whatever the Circumstances
I’m glad in God, far happier than you would ever guess—happy that you’re again showing such strong concern for me. Not that you ever quit praying and thinking about me. You just had no chance to show it. Actually, I don’t have a sense of needing anything personally. I’ve learned by now to be quite content whatever my circumstances. I’m just as happy with little as with much, with much as with little. I’ve found the recipe for being happy whether full or hungry, hands full or hands empty. Whatever I have, wherever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am. I don’t mean that your help didn’t mean a lot to me—it did. It was a beautiful thing that you came alongside me in my troubles.
The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prevents the government from making laws that regulate an establishment of religion, or that prohibit the free exercise of religion, or abridge the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of assembly, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances. It was adopted on December 15, 1791, as one of the ten amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.
